April 2026 Newsletter
Howdy, it's Cory, and you're reading Astoria's first newsletter. We will use this as a platform to keep everyone updated on the news and activity in the Regenerative Agriculture movement in the United States. I'm excited and hopeful as I see this movement gaining momentum every day. I thank all of the folks reading this for being part of a new piece of infrastructure that this movement deserves. One I truly believe will accelerate its growth and heal our nation.

The USDA launched a new Regenerative Pilot Program, setting aside $700 million in NRCS funding to help producers adopt whole-farm regenerative practices. Ranchers can now submit a single application routed through EQIP or CSP that bundles practices like cover crops, managed grazing, and diversified rotations into one outcome-based plan. Every state is required to dedicate roughly 25% of its EQIP and CSP dollars to the pilot. We can debate the role of government and whether this type of funding should exist, but this at least directs existing funding into better ends. Source: NRCS Regenerative Pilot Program |

The USDA and Interior Department signed a new Grazing Action Plan designed to make federal land grazing more predictable and rancher-friendly. It directs the Forest Service and BLM to streamline permits, reopen vacant allotments, and explicitly backs tools many regenerative ranchers already use like virtual fencing. Hopefully this helps more public land regenerate with proper management practices. Also, I find virtual fencing to be fascinating, and I'm interested to hear other folks' opinion. McDonald's committed $200 million over seven years to expand regenerative grazing across up to 4 million acres of U.S. ranchland, partnering with the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and backed by USDA conservation programs. The funding will support rotational grazing, soil restoration, and water management. While I'm skeptical of this one, it is at least a clear signal that regenerative practices are beneficial to promote publicly. Source: McDonald's + NFWF Partnership |
